The Status of My Inheritance

I know, this is a sick title for a Blog about my mom and her journey into chemotherapy.  But, hey, I'm my mother's daughter so what can I say?  You know her, right?
Mom was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer after going to the hospital because she was having a difficult time breathing and had pain in her stomach.  The pain was 2 liters of liquid on her lungs.  Diagnosis: Pneumonia.  Yeah!  Unfortunately, the liquid was cancerous, boo!  Fortunately it was discovered so it could be treated.  At stage four we were told the diagnosis without chemotherapy would be 3 months.
Fortunately, Mom is in Ohio where they are conducting research on the drug "Avastin".  Mom qualifies for the study so she will start chemotherapy next week and she gets "Avastin" in addition to her regular chemotherapy regimen.
She has a positive attitude about this and is hopeful that this research will help others.
She is behaving by eating her green veggies and protein to prepare for this path.  She was told she could lose her hair but that they don't expect her to lose weight.  So much for the weight loss side affects she was hoping for.
She's up and about and is a bit tired.  All her children except Georgia were able to come visit her for the holidays.  Georgia was sick and is awaiting getting over the sickness so she will be here for the fun stuff!
The doctor said Mom can plan on continuing a regular routine.  I was happy about that, but she has yet to feed me---what's with that?!
We've set up this blog to keep all her friends and family informed of her process as she won't be out among the germs.  She's planning on the kids keeping her house clean of those germs.  (Dream on, right?!)
Anyway, with as much as she'd love to see everyone, we'll let you know when she can cuz we just don't need sickness anywhere around as her body will  not be creating those white blood cells to fight infections.
We appreciate your concern and she can talk on the phone, that will be the best way to keep in touch when she is feeling well.
Check back for updates.
Thanks.
Deb

  1. Before going to the hospital the doctors thought she had a pulled muscle, then Gull Stones, then appendix problems. at the hospital they found it was pneumonia. Then they found cancer cells in the fluid from her lung. What a Merry Go Round she has been on. She had an xray of the lungs on Nov 20th which was clear. A month later this! She is really holding up great ...or... putting up a great front. You all know Lois.....
